Diana Vickers is the reason indie music is dead

Right, so I completely lost interest in doing anything in this blog because I realised noone cares what I think about music and I realised this was just a pointless use of my time.
But today, about 10 minutes ago in fact, something happened that changed it all. That something was seeing Diana Vickers (a mouse-human hybrid which plagued our screens as part of the x factor) filed under the music genre of indie. Dudes, I shit you not.

In fact it crops up on loads of different websites and in numerous newspapers articles which are referring to her as 'indie' and that deeply saddens me, because it makes me realise this brilliant culture and music genre is nothing exciting anymore, it's basically just a gimmick used by cunts who think they're cool. In fact the 7th result in a google search of indie is a wikihow.com article entitled 'How to Dress Indie', what the actual fuck?!

A simple definition of indie is independent, whether in music, films, art or personality it's about originality, obscurity and not being part of a major group. But that's all arse over tit nowadays as indie culture is the major group, the originality and obscurity has been leeched away by these wannabes who squeeze into tight clothing and pointy shoes to be like every other textbook 'indie', so there's nothing independent left about it.
The music is fucked mostly, it used to be mysterious, original, new and unheard of. There's been some brilliant bands; The Velvet Underground, The Smiths, Joy Division, Sonic Youth, even more recently The Strokes, Interpol, Radiohead and The Libertines. Now when those musical geniuses can be filed under the same category as a squeaky girl made famous by a reality tv show who has her songs written for her, then you know it's time to bow your head and mourn the passing of something great.
It saddens me that I wasn't around to see the indie scene when it was in it's prime, when it was something that gave you goosebumps, it's heartbreaking in fact. Because now all I'm left to do is appreciate the rare gem that comes through the horrid music of today or weep over the beautiful music genre and culture that has become extinct.

I play you out with a classic....

Underground Heroes

Just last night I got sorted for being a rep promoting tickets.
The recent one I'm promoting is 'The Underground Heroes', they're a 4-piece band citing their biggest influences as The Jam, The Libertines, The Clash and The Specials. They've toured with with the likes of The Cribs, Lily Allen, The View, Kasabian, Kate Nash, Little Man Tate and also played a spot at Glastonbury and Ibiza Rocks festivals.
I've been listening to them a fair bit today and I have to say they're rather good. They're not a deep band that will touch you with their lyrics and have you contemplating life's great mysteries, but they're a fast-paced, cocky-yet-witty, fred perry wearing young angsty punk/indie band that will have you singing along to the catchy rhythms and 'whoaahh-ohhhs'. There's a video of their latest tune for you to have a gander at below, or you can click on the picture there to go to their myspace.
So aye, they're playing at The Independent in Sunderland quite soon, Thursday the 13th of May in fact and it's only a fiver. So you might as well have a look down because I can imagine it being worthwhile......

So here it goes

Well it seems I have this blog malarky up and running. I'm probablys going to forget I made this tomorrow and never post again, but meh at least there's a good hour of my time pleasantly occupied.
God knows if anyone will ever read this blog if I start writing stuff, but never-the-less I might as well seeing as though I have nothing better to do. I'll make the layout nice and wotnot once I've figured out how to :}

Anyways time for abit about myself and why I think my opinion on music is valid and worthy of a blog:
I play guitar, I've been teaching myself for just about a year now and I dare say I'm decent, I like to make my own covers of songs sometimes and I often wish I had a good voice to sing along. I'm also in a band with some friends (our band's still nameless as of yet, but we'll get there).
I love to rant about music to anyone who'll listen or generally anyone who is in my line of fire, so I thought I might as well write it on here and maybe someone reading might find it interesting and challenge my view. In terms of what music I listen to, I listen to shit loads of different bands/musicians and there's a massive long list I could reel off. However, my five favourite bands are; Nirvana (Kurt Cobain is fantastic), The Smiths, The Libertines, The Cure, and Interpol.
Reet, well this is it for this post. I shall write more after abit sleep and when I have some fuel for my blog writing fire.
Laterz :)
